Clifton Labs is developing a new sensor for color imaging that replaces the typical CMOS sensor used in conventional digital cameras and cell phones. The current sensors uses either a RGB filter pattern mounted on the pixels of the sensor array to interpolate color or using an expensive Foveon sensor that is fabricated using a particular VLSI fabrication process. The Clifton Labs sensors can be fabricated using any standard and inexpensive VLSI fabrication facility. Our color sensor is actually a special case of our multi-spectral imaging sensor.
