Clifton Labs is developing a novel VLSI pixel design to build multi-spectral imaging sensors. The pixel design has special control circuits and drivers that allow the imager to measure and separate the contributions of various spectral bands in the light incident on the pixel array. The specific spectral bands measured can be controlled dynamically by the control circuits. Furthermore, the pixel design can be fabricated in a variety of different materials (e.g., BiCMOS, SiGe) thereby allowing the imagers to be sensitive to spectral regions beyond normal CMOS imagers.
